Read Lukács Albert’s testimonial about his Erasmus expericence at the UNiversity of Nyíregyháza:

Dear future Erasmus students,

Do you know what Erasmus means? I’ll tell you now: a chance, an opportunity. If you decide not to take it, you will always regret that decision. Before I decided to start the Erasmus mobility, I used to stay at home, wondering what was missing from my life. I’ve always wanted to meet new people, from other cultures, from other parts of the world. I’ve always wanted to know what learning means in other countries, so I made one of the best decisions of my life: to travel, to explore and to experience, to ERASMUS.

I chose the Nyiregyhaza University with no background information. I had never heard about it before. I started my mobility in February. Still, it was one of the most pleasant surprises I’ve ever been part of. My main goal was to learn more about my major, the transport and traffic engineering, and of course, about life. When I came here, I knew nothing about the city or about the educational system, for instance. I was completely alone. It is always hard to adjust to a new environment. But don’t be afraid, it is just temporary! It all changes when you start meeting people. And you will, I can assure you of that. You will come across numerous great people.

Here’s how it went for me. At first, I met two guys from Turkey: Sahin and Sarper.

Two strangers who later became true friends. It’s incredible how close you can come to someone in just a few months. We did everything together. And when I say everything, I mean everything, every day. Then I met the other Erasmus students: Csilla, Aysin and Yasemin. It was just like a big family. I discovered a lot about their cultures, habits, traditions. And it is so mind-blowing. Believe me, there is such a thing as becoming addicted to meeting new people from other countries! And that’s what Erasmus is all about.

All of the local, Hungarian students were really friendly. They accepted us, taught us, made us feel at home. Special thanks to Siki, Feri and David. I, for one, made a lot of good friends through this scholarship, and we are planning to reunite soon. I also met Erasmus students from other Universities, De and Dani. I will certainly never forget them. This is how Erasmus surpasses the limits of just one university and lets you gain insight into way more!

I also had the opportunity to travel. To discover Nyiregyhaza, to visit Eger, Budapest, Hortobagy. I want to say a big thank you for the Erasmus group for organising all of this for us.

And finally, let me thank my „Erasmus mothers”, my coordinators, Evi and Krisztina for helping me throughout the entire process. They fought for us, informed us, helped us and offered us the experience of life with Erasmus.

I finished my Erasmus mobility in June, with all of my exams succeeded, thanks for my great professors. Now I’m at home, with my family, thinking about Erasmus every night. I miss Nyiregyhaza, I miss my friends, miss the University, the nights out, the food and to be honest, the Hungarian beers too :D. I feel satisfied, the experience lived up to all of my expectations. The educational system at this university works exceptionally well. It helped me become way better at my specialization. It provided a way to meet new people, to master my English skills, to learn about other cultures, to be more open-minded. Don’t be afraid to try it, and believe me, once you do, Erasmus will always have a special place in your heart.
